Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Journey to Tortuguero and Night Exploration
🌄 7:00 AM – Pickup from Hotel
Pickup from your hotel in San José, Heredia, Alajuela, La Fortuna, or the South Caribbean (Cahuita, Puerto Viejo, Manzanillo).
(Travelers picked up from San José, Heredia, or Alajuela will enjoy a scenic drive through Braulio Carrillo National Park. Travelers coming from La Fortuna will take an alternate scenic route through the northern plains.)
🚗 7:00 AM – 10:00 AM – Drive to La Pavona Dock
Comfortable and picturesque drive to La Pavona. We’ll stop along the way for a traditional Costa Rican breakfast.
🍽️ 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM – Breakfast Stop in Guápiles
Savor a hearty breakfast of gallo pinto, eggs, plantains, coffee, and fresh tropical fruits.
🛥️ 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM – Boat Ride to Cerro Tortuguero
Board a riverboat for a scenic ride to a private dock near Cerro Tortuguero.
🥾 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Hike to Cerro Tortuguero Viewpoint
Enjoy a 1-hour guided hike to the summit of Cerro Tortuguero, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the rainforest, canals, and Caribbean Sea.
🛥️ 12:00 PM – 12:15 PM – Short Boat Ride to Tortuguero Village
A 15-minute boat ride will take us from Cerro Tortuguero to Tortuguero Village.
🍛 12:15 PM – 1:15 PM – Caribbean-Style Lunch
Arrive in the village and enjoy a delicious Caribbean-style lunch, featuring coconut rice and beans, seafood or chicken, and plantains.
🏘️ 1:15 PM – 2:45 PM – Village Tour & Sea Turtle Conservancy Visit
Explore Tortuguero Village with your guide, discovering its Afro-Caribbean culture and history, followed by a visit to the Sea Turtle Conservancy to learn about crucial conservation efforts.
🏨 3:00 PM – Check-In at Your Hotel
Check into your hotel and enjoy some free time to relax or explore the lush surroundings.
🌙 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM – Night Walk at ASVO Private Reserve
Join your guide for a 1.5-hour night walk through the ASVO Private Reserve, bordering the National Park, to spot frogs, insects, reptiles, and nocturnal mammals. (Between July and October, the night walk can be replaced by a Turtle Nesting Tour to witness the incredible nesting process of sea turtles.)
🍽️ 7:30 PM – Dinner at a Local Restaurant
After the night walk (or turtle nesting tour), enjoy a flavorful Caribbean dinner at a handpicked restaurant in the village.
Day 2: Sunrise Wildlife Adventure and Return Journey
🌅 6:00 AM – 8:30 AM – Private Paddle Boat Tour in Tortuguero National Park
Early morning private paddle boat tour through the tranquil canals. Spot wildlife like monkeys, sloths, toucans, and caimans while enjoying tropical fruits onboard.
🍽️ 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM – Breakfast at the Lodge
Recharge with a delicious breakfast at your lodge.
🌿 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM – Hike on the Jaguar Trail
Join your guide for a 1.5-hour nature hike along the Jaguar Trail, where you’ll discover rainforest flora, fauna, and animal tracks.
🍛 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM – Lunch at a Local Restaurant
Enjoy a farewell Caribbean-style lunch.
🛥️ 1:00 PM – Boat Ride Back to La Pavona
Board the boat at 1:00 PM for the return ride along the La Suerte River.
🚗 1:45 PM – 6:00 PM – Drive to Your Drop-Off Destination
